This fall, we continue to explore God’s invitation to be a hesed-shaped community. Hesed is the Hebrew word which can be translated as the tangible intersection of love, generosity, and commitment.
This week,we wrapped up the series with Kellye Fabian-Story. Just in time for Thanksgiving, Kellye helped us consider how we can show hesed toward those we find difficult.
Our invitation this week is two-fold. First, let’s pay attention to the times we do not make space for the worth of another in our lives and let’s be curious (as Kellye guided in our practice) about what kept us from showing hesed. Did we neglect our calling to participate in the kingdom as God’s image bears? Was it the way we saw the situation, did we choose to withhold hesed because it cost too much or we were unwilling to surrender our rights? Second, if we know we are about to engage those we find difficult, let’s slow down and invite God into our time, considering how we might show hesed.
