In this series, our desire is to soak ourselves in the character of God as it is described in Exodus 34:6-7. It’s our hope that we can have a real encounter with the compassion, grace, slowness to anger, loyal-love, and faithfulness of God in this season. This week, we contemplated God’s loyal love and considered how we might live fully immersed in loyal love.
Kingdom Practices
This week, let’s continue to soak in God’s loyal love. In our practice Sunday, we created space to reflect on Bernard of Clairvaux’s four degrees of love. Our desire is to continue to ponder the final question and respond to God’s invitation. If it is helpful, you may return to all four questions as a way to slow down and listen to quiet love of the Holy Spirit.
The first degree of love is love of self for self’s sake.
In this season of life, how are you limiting love to yourself and what you need to survive?
The second degree of love is love of God for self’s sake.
Where in this season are you feeling deep and significant affection for God based on what God has done for you?
The third degree of love is love of God for God’s sake.
How are you experiencing awe or wonder in God? How is God inviting you in this season to recognize and rest in God’s greatness?
The fourth degree of love is love of self for God’s sake.
How is God inviting you to live fully immersed in God’s loyal-love, so that all you do (work/school/ play, relationships, etc.) is dripping with loyal-love?
